AKRON, Ohio --Elijah Griffith put together a great outing on the mound on Saturday, but the Akron Zips fell 4-1 to the Western Michigan Broncos.

The solid outing from Griffith was not enough for Akron (6-9, 0-2). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Floyd McKenna was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out two.

Offensively, the Zips were led by Brennan Morgan, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Kyle McConachie furnished a standout effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Akron got an RBI single from Morgan, scoring Gabe Mathison from third base. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Western Michigan scored four times over the remaining eight innings to grab the 4-1 win.
