Akron Falls to Eastern Michigan in Extra Innings

YPSILANTI, Mich. -Â The Akron Zips fell 9-8 in a 10-inning matchup to the Eastern Michigan Eagles Saturday.
In the batter's box, the Zips were led by Blake Bowen, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI. Henry Hayman put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ryan Jones also contributed for Akron, adding three walks and an RBI.
Garrett Groce (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Akron. Taylor Bednar was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 innings, surrendering two runs, zero earned, on two hits, walking four and striking out four. Elijah Griffith got the start for the Blue and Gold, going six innings while allowing three runs, all earned, on nine hits and striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a one-run walk off the bat of Jones.
The Eagles then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 7-6 until the Zips expanded their advantage in the ninth. Akron pushed across a run on Gabe Mathison's two-out RBI double, which brought the Zips lead to 8-6. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Eastern Michigan scored three times over the remaining one inning to grab the 9-8 win.
