AKRON, Ohio --Floyd McKenna dominated on Saturday, striking out eight UMass hitters over 3.2 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Akron Zips lost to the Minutemen 5-4.

Brody Chrisman compiled three hits, driving in a run and walking once to leads the Zips offense. Blake Bowen drew three walks against the Minutemen.

In addition to his eight strikeouts, McKenna went 3.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit and walking one for Akron (8-9, 2-2). Elijah Griffith (2-1) took the loss for Akron.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the first inning. Akron managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Zips kept the deficit at 4-2 before closing the gap further in the third. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Brody Chrisman, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Minutemen.

UMass built their lead to 5-3 before the Akron offense got going, reducing that lead to 5-4 in the fifth. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
