Akron Falls to Troy

TROY, Ala -The Akron men's basketball team fell 79-69 to the Troy Trojans on Saturday.
The Zips (19-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Tavari Johnson, who had 26 points. Shammah Scott tacked on 11 points and five assists off of the bench. Amani Lyles turned in a nine-point, seven rebound performance, Evan Mahaffey added four points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block while Eric Mahaffey notched seven points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block.
Akron was effective with their ball distribution, recording 17 assists on 25 made baskets. Evan Mahaffey and Scott led the way with five assists each.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 11-8 advantage, Akron went on a 7-0 run with 14:23 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Bowen Hardman, to increase its lead to 18-8. The Zips then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 35-29.
Akron could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 79-69. Akron took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 40 points in the lane.
