Klintemar Clinches NCAA Autobid; Zips set School and Pool Record in 2nd day of MAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's swimming and diving team surged into the lead Thursday at the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championship, highlighted by an NCAA automatic qualifying time, a school record and a pool record.
Akron leads the team standings with 265 points, ahead of Ohio (193) and Buffalo (191).
The Zips opened the evening session with a strong showing in the 500-yard freestyle. Helena Lalkovic captured the conference title in 4;47.76, while Elle Couture added a third-place finish in 4:49.89.
Akron continued its momentum in the 200 individual medley. Felicia Klintemar won the event with an NCAA qualifying time of 1:57.52. Avery Knight placed third, clocking a time of 2:00.32.
In the 50 freestyle, Callie Parkes finished second in with a school record time of 22.00. Ada Szwabinska added a fourth-place finish in 22.23.
On the 1-meter diving board, Elizabeth Noble scored 268.65 to finish fourth and secure an NCAA qualifying score.
Akron closed the night with a victory in the 400 medley relay. The team of Klintemar, Claire Cox, Parkes and Szwabinska posted a time of 3:32.40, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and a pool record.
The Zips look to increase its lead even further as the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships continue at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 27.
