Klintemar and Cox Earn NCAA Autobids; Zips increase Lead After Third Day of MAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron delivered a record-setting night Friday at the 2026 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Ocasek Natatorium, highlighted by a championship record in the 100-yard butterfly and a pool-record performance in the 200 freestyle relay.
Felicia Klintemar set a meet record in the 100 butterfly, touching in 51.35 seconds to win the conference title and post an NCAA qualifying time. The mark broke the previous championship record and added to Akron's dominance in the event.
Callie Parkes added a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly in 52.05, while Hannah Trainer placed sixth (54.60) and Addy Soehnlen eighth (55.09) to give the Zips four scorers in the A final.
Akron carried its momentum into the 200 freestyle relay, where Parkes, Ada Szwabinska, Klintemar and Trainer combined for a pool, meet and MAC record time of 1:28.35. The quartet's performance met the NCAA provisional standard and secured 40 team points.
In the 100 breaststroke,Claire Cox captured the conference title in 59.59, an NCAA qualifying time. Efthymia Mazaraki added a seventh-place finish (1:01.86) in the A final, while Madelyn Bosler placed 15th overall.
Akron continued its strong showing in the 100 backstroke, with Avery Knight finishing second in 52.43 to post an NCAA qualifying time.Â
Martyna Piesko placed third (52.79), and Abbey Cronin added a seventh-place finish (53.97) in the A final.
In the 200 freestyle, Helena Lalkovic earned a runner-up finish in 1:45.39, meeting the NCAA qualifying standard. Szwabinska placed third (1:47.70), while Cora Spetz (1:49.77) and Brienne Trumpower (1:50.21) scored in the B final.
Akron also found success in the 400 individual medley, with Madelyn Bosler finishing fifth (4:20.14) in the A final. Efi Mazaraki (4:25.56) and Abbey Cronin (4:29.52) added points in the B final.
Lydia Redd (249.75) and Paige Bush (245.55) scored in the B final to contribute additional team points in the 3-meter dive.
The Zips continue competition Saturday at Ocasek Natatorium to conclude the four-day championship meet.
