Zips Fall to Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio -Â Akron fell 45-3 to Toledo on the road at the Glass Bowl on Saturday.
Brayden Roggow (Tiffin, Ohio) led the Zips passing game with a career-high 51 yards on seven completions on 12 attempts while Michael Johnson Jr. (San Jose, Calif.) added 28 yards (7-13-0).
Jordan Gant (Lakeland, Fla.) totaled 22 yards to lead the Zips' ground attack, while Cam Macon (Barberton, Ohio) tacked on 17 yards.
Israel Polk (Richmond, Calif.) was one of five receivers with multiples receptions, leading the Zips with 16 yards. Marcel Williams (Hollywood, Fla.) and Kyan Mason (Monaca, Pa.) both added 15 yards.
Akron's defense recorded its four consecutive game of 60+ tackles with 69 tackles coming against the Rockets. The Zips were led by DiMarco Johnson's (Irmo, S.C.) eight tackles while Mehki Flowers (Harrisburg, Pa.) added seven. Dimitri Madden (Lewisham, London) and Jason Hocker (Lexington, Ky.) combined for the Zips lone sack of the game while Julien Laventure (Upper Darby, Pa.) and Melvin Spriggs (Fredericksburg, Va.) each recorded a team-high one tackle for loss.
The Rockets improved to 3-2 on the year and 1-1 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Zips fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the MAC.
How It Happened
Akron responded to an early 28-0 Toledo advantage with a second-quarter 39-yard field goal from Owen Wiley (Avon Lake, Ohio) to narrow the deficit to 28-3. Akron didn't score again in the game and Toledo added 17 more points to finish off the scoring.

The Akron Zips return to InfoCision Stadium-Summa Health Field for two consecutive weeks. On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Blue and Gold host Central Michigan for its Homecoming and Family Fall Fest Weekend. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 11 the RedHawks of Miami visit InfoCision Stadium-Summa Health Field. Kickoff is TBA.
