Zips Fall to Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio -Ā Akron fell 45-3 to Toledo on the road at the Glass Bowl on Saturday.
Brayden RoggowĀ (Tiffin, Ohio) led the Zips passing game with a career-high 51 yardsĀ on sevenĀ completions on 12 attemptsĀ whileĀ Michael Johnson Jr.Ā (San Jose, Calif.) added 28 yards (7-13-0).
Jordan GantĀ (Lakeland, Fla.) totaled 22 yards to lead the Zips' ground attack, whileĀ Cam Macon (Barberton, Ohio) tacked on 17 yards.
Israel PolkĀ (Richmond, Calif.)Ā was one of five receivers with multiples receptions, leading the Zips with 16 yards.Ā Marcel WilliamsĀ (Hollywood, Fla.) andĀ Kyan MasonĀ (Monaca, Pa.) both added 15 yards.
Akron's defense recorded its four consecutive game of 60+ tackles with 69 tackles coming against the Rockets. The Zips were led byĀ DiMarco Johnson'sĀ (Irmo, S.C.) eight tackles whileĀ Mehki FlowersĀ (Harrisburg, Pa.) added seven.Ā Dimitri MaddenĀ (Lewisham, London) andĀ Jason HockerĀ (Lexington, Ky.) combined for the Zips lone sack of the game while Julien Laventure (Upper Darby, Pa.) andĀ Melvin SpriggsĀ (Fredericksburg, Va.) each recorded a team-high one tackle for loss.
The Rockets improved to 3-2 on the year and 1-1 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Zips fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the MAC.
How It Happened
Akron responded to an early 28-0 Toledo advantage with a second-quarter 39-yard field goal fromĀ Owen WileyĀ (Avon Lake, Ohio)Ā to narrow the deficit to 28-3. Akron didn't score again in the game and Toledo added 17 more points to finish off the scoring.
