Akron Falls 1-0 in MAC Opener to UMass

AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Massachusetts on Thursday (Sept. 18) in the Mid-American Conference opener for the Zips at FirstEnergy Stadium.
How it Happened
The Zips surrendered an own goal in the game's second minute (1:07) for what proved to be the deciding tally in the match.Â
Neither side was able to connect on strong scoring chances over the remainder of the half as the Minutewomen held a 1-0 advantage at the intermission.
After some changes at halftime Akron came out with renewed focus in the second half and were able to push the tempo in the tilt in the offensive end. Unfortunately it didn't result in the equalizer for the Zips.
Junior goalkeeper Sara Bower (Cincinnati, Ohio) led Akron with four saves. The Zips registered three shots in the loss. Akron faced 13 Massachusetts shots, four of them on goal.
Game Notes
- Bower totaled four saves for the Zips out of 13 total Minutewomen shots.
- Sophomore Eesha Sutharshan (Knoxville, Tenn.) provided Akron's lone shot on the afternoon.
