April 25 | Men's Basketball
AKRON, Ohio - Chabi Barre, a transfer from Duquesne, will join the Akron Zips men's basketball program for the 2025-26 season, head coach John Groce announced on Friday.
Â
"We are excited to add Chabi to our program," said Groce. "With his size and athleticism, Chabi will impact both ends of the floor for us next season."
Â
Barre, who played the past three seasons for the Dukes, played in 63 games and started 24. The last two seasons saw Barre record 139 points, 129 rebounds and 29 blocks in 51 contests while shooting over 50 percent from the field. Barre recorded a career-high 11 rebounds and four blocks against Hampton on Nov. 25, 2024.
Â
"Our staff is looking forward to getting Chabi on campus this summer as we start our preparation to compete for a MAC Championship in 2025-26," said Groce.
Â
Before Duquesne, Barre played at Scotland (Pa.) Campus where he earned a spot on the National Prep Showcase All-Tournament First Team and was part of back-to-back Great Atlantic Conference title teams.
Â
Barre attended Our Saviour New American in New York, before moving on to the Montverde Academy (Fla.) Center for Basketball Development where he was on the same team as Cade Cunningham. Barre has also competed with the Benin National Team.
