AKRON, Ohio -Â University of Akron rifle redshirt senior Erin Schnupp (Gorham, Maine) will culminate her Zips career on the biggest stage as she garnered an at-large selection to compete in the smallbore at the NCAA Rifle Championships, March 14-15, in Lexington, Ky., when the tournament pairings were unveiled on Monday, Feb. 24.
Schnupp earned her first career NCAA Championship berth and will compete on Friday, March 14.
Schnupp becomes the seventh Zip to qualify as an at-large individual selection. She joins redshirt senior Gavin Perkowski (Bolivar, Ohio) (2024), Andre Gross (2022, 2020, 2019), Kayla Andreoli (2021), Matt Chezem (2015), Sarah Benjamin (2010) and Jenna Compton (2009).
"Erin is a legacy team member as the last of three Schnupp's to represent Akron," Akron head coach Newt Engle commented. "We started with sister Sarah (2017-19), followed by brother Patrick (2018-19) and now Erin (2020-Present). Erin may have come to us as the baby sister, but she has developed into a tremendous team leader with a clear focus on success. I am absolutely thrilled to see Erin selected as our representative at the 2025 NCAA Championships." Â
Schnupp has registered a team-best 585.73 average on the campaign in the smallbore, while posting a 1173.20 average in the combined disciplines and a 587.47 mark in the air rifle. Earlier this season, she established a program-record 20-shot kneeling smallbore mark of 199 (16) as part of a personal-best smallbore mark of 589 versus UT Martin on Oct. 11, 2024. Additionally, she set a personal combined record total of 1180 against John Jay on Oct. 19, 2024.
Â
The Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) rifle championships are up next for the Zips this Saturday and Sunday (March 1-2). Akron will battle against five of the top 15 ranked teams in the nation for the GARC Championship. Smallbore will be fought out Saturday, finishing up with air rifle on Sunday.
