Zips Earn 3-0 Sweep Over Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -The Akron volleyball team got the job done in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-22) to take down the Bowling Green Falcons Friday at the Stroh Center.
Delaney Gash finished with 16 kills on the day to lead the Zips attack. Defensively, Akron had two players reach double figures in digs as Vanessa Del Real had 13 and Reilly Chausse had 11. From the front row, Martina Villani contributed five blocks while adding a team-high 39 assists
The conference victory improved Akron's record to 15-11 overall and 8-7 in MAC action.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips grabbed the first set 25-20 thanks to a strong showing on the attacking side. Akron put together a .333 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set victory. The Zips opened up a 20-12 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. Akron also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Akron won set two 25-20 to swiftly take a 2-0 lead. The Zips never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 20-19 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza. The Akron offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Bowling Green attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Zips the set the third set 25-22. Akron took the lead for good at 22-21 in a set that had just one lead change before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza.
