Zips Secure 3-0 Sweep Over Toledo

AKRON, Ohio --The Akron volleyball team got the job done in straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-21) to beat the Toledo Rockets Friday at James A Rhodes Arena.
The Zips offense was paced by Delaney Gash, who finished with 13 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .345, and provided three aces. Maureen Mathews followed close behind with 11 while hitting .286. Akron got 10 digs from Vanessa Del Real to lead them defensively. Chidera Ozoh led Akron with four blocks while Gabby Brissett notched three and added nine kills. Martina Villani served up 35 assists over the three sets while adding three aces and five digs.
The conference victory improved Akron's record to 16-12 overall and 9-8 in MAC action.

SET 1 | The Zips grabbed control on the first point and never looked back to secure the first set 25-18. Akron led by nine points at 13-4 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills along the way.
SET 2 | Akron built on a set-one win by earning a 25-22 victory in set two. The Zips grabbed the set powered by a solid performance on the attacking side. Akron registered a .429 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands six times, the Zips took control for good at 23-22 and rode that advantage to victory.
SET 3 | Akron finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing the third set. Impressive serving helped the Zips win the set 25-21. Akron totaled six aces in the win. After the lead changed hands five times, the Zips took control for good at 13-12 and rode that advantage to victory. The Akron offense also got a boost from six aces in the stanza.
