Zips Fall 3-1 to Toledo on Senior Day

AKRON, OH --The Akron volleyball team fell 3-1 (19-25, 16-25, 25-20, 14-25) to the Toledo Rockets on Senior Day at the James A Rhodes Arena.
Prior to the regular season finale, the Akron volleyball program honored its 2025 senior class as Maureen Mathews, Jaryn Morgan, Gabby Brissett and Katelyn Crofts were joined on the floor by family and friends.Â
Akron dropped the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-16, before claiming the third set 25-20 and falling in the fourth (25-14). The Zips attack was paced by Delaney Gash and Chidera Ozoh. Gash administered a team-high 14 kills, while Ozoh collected a second-best 10 kills, hitting .389. Vanessa Del Real anchored the defense with 19 digs and Ozoh added five blocks.
Akron finished regular season play with a 16-13 overall record and 9-9 in Mid-American Conference play..

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-19. Akron trailed by as many as eight points as Toledo never surrendered the lead in a set that was notted up just once before the Rockets took control.
SET 2 | Akron then lost the second set 25-16 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Zips dropped the first point and never clawed back into the lead before dropping the set.
SET 3 | After losing the opening two sets, Akron fought back to grab set three and make it a 2-1 match. The Zips led from the first point on in the set to secure a 25-20 victory. Akron ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, five points, to finish off the set, totaling 18 kills in the process.
SET 4 | Akron couldn't keep the rally going and lost in the fourth set 25-14 to drop the match. The Zips fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set.
