Zips Sweep Eastern Michigan to Conclude the Week

AKRON, Ohio -The Akron volleyball team walked away with a three-set victory (25-19, 26-24, 25-15) over the Eastern Michigan Eagles Saturday at James A Rhodes Arena.
Delaney Gash finished with 17 kills on the day to lead the Zips offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .280. Maureen Mathews and Lyndi Wolf added seven kills each while Wolf led the squad with three aces. Defensively, Akron had two players reach double figures in digs as Vanessa Del Real had 22 and Martina Villani recorded a double-double with 36 assists and 12 digs. Chidera Ozoh led the Blue and Gold with four blocks while Gabby Brissett followed close behind with three.
The win boosted the Zips' record to 14-11 overall and 7-7 in MAC action.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips grabbed control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-19. Akron led by seven points at 24-17 before closing out the set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Eastern Michigan attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Akron took set two 26-24 to swiftly take a 2-0 lead. The Zips survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied 13 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Akron finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning the third set. The Zips scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-15 victory. Akron opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 23-12 before closing out the set. The Akron offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
