Numerous Zips Record Career Highs in Five Set Loss to Buffalo

AKRON, Ohio - Chidera Ozoh totaled a career-high 12 kills with a .647 hitting percentage, but the Akron volleyball team fell 3-2 (27-25, 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 12-15) to the Buffalo Bulls Tuesday at James A Rhodes Arena.
The Zips offense saw five players recorded 10 or more kills, and was paced by Lyndi Wolf, who finished with a career-high 15 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .400. Delaney Gash added 13, Ozoh chipped in 12 while Gabby Brissett had 11 and Sarah Bettis recorded a career-high 10.Akron got a seas0n-high 23 digs from Vanessa Del Real along with a career-high six blocks from Martina Villani to lead them defensively. Villani also supplied 55 assists against the Bulls.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in MAC action.

SET 1 | The Zips came out on top of a close first set, winning 27-25 in a stanza that was tied 14 times and had eight lead changes. The Zips opening set win came in a stanza where 19 of their 27 points came via the kill.
SET 2 | Akron fell in set two 25-21 to even the match 1-1. Buffalo grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was knotted up seven times before the Bulls took over the lead.
SET 3 | Akron then dropped their second set in a row, falling behind in the match two sets to one. The Zips came up short by the score of 25-21. Buffalo grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was knotted up seven times before the Bulls took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Akron broke their two set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a 25-20 victory in set number four. A strong showing on the attacking end led the Zips to victory in the set. Akron registered a .341 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. The Zips opened up a 23-15 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
SET 5 | After dropping sets two and three, Akron won set four, knotting up the game at two sets apiece to force a fifth set, but couldn't complete the comeback, losing the set 15-12 and the match 3-2. The Zips fell in a back-and-forth set five, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team led by more than three points in the set.
