BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University of Akron women's soccer team turned in a stellar effort against one of the top teams in the Mid-American Conference before a highlight-reel goal from 25 yards out propelled Buffalo to a 1-0 triumph on Thursday (Oct. 2).
How It Happened
The two sides battled through a scoreless opening half where the Zips posted four shots, including a pair on goal.
Redshirt freshman GK Ariana Vakos (Avon, Ohio) was again strong in net for Akron making four saves in the opening stanza.
The Zips have not surrendered a goal to the opposition in the first half of four of five league contests.
The Bulls broke the scoreless match with a 25-yard strike from the sideline off the foot of Jasmine Guerber that found the upper corner and struck side netting.
The Zips nearly netted the equalizer in the 68th minute as only a team save off the line prevented a header from senior Rielly Chesna (Chicago, Ill.) from bouncing off the defender and finding the back of the net.
Akron had one final salvo in the 88th minute only to be whistled from an offsides.
