Zips Leading After First Day of the Zips Classic

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron swimming and diving team finished the first day of the Zips Classic in first place and set a meet record in the 400-yard Medley Relay.
The Zips finished day one with 432 points while Cleveland State finished second with 219 and Youngstown State finished third with 202.
Akron started the day off with a third-place finish in the 1-meter dive, as Elizabeth Noble took third with a score of 238.50.
The Zips took two of the top three times in the 400-yard Medley Relay, with the "Z" team of Martyna Piesko (54.18), Claire Cox (1:00.37), Felicia Klintemar (52.38) and Ada Szwabinska (49.29) finishing with a meet record time of 3:36.22. The previous meet record was set in 2021 by Akron's relay team of Gatrall, Fischer, Watson and Nogaj (3:36.51). The Zip's "S" team of Avery Knight (55.36), Efthymia Mazaraki (1:03.43), Addy Soehnlen (55.27) and Helena Lalkovic (49.84) finished third with a time of 3:43.90.
In the 500-yard Free, Lalkovic took the top time of 4:53.98 while Elle Couture finished third (4:58.01) and Maggie Patterson took fourth (4:58.63).
Klintemar took the top time in the 200-Yard IM (2:00.59) while Knight finished third (2:05.81) and Piesko finished fourth (2:07.28). Akron saw Szwabinska take second in the 50-Yard Free with a time of 22.72 while Callie Parks finished fourth with a time of 23.54. Olivia Oyster of Xavier set a meet record with a time of 22.29, breaking her previous meet record time of 22.69 in 2024.
Akron concluded the first day of the Zips Classic with two of the top three times in the 800-Yard Free Relay. The Zips "Z" team of Klintemar (1:50.19), Lalkovic (1:51.60), Couture (1:53.91) and Szwabinska (1:51.27) took first with a time of 7:26.97 while the "I" team of Cora Spetz (1:55.63), Brienne Trumpower (1:53.06), Patterson (1:53.06) and Hannah Trainer (1:52.77) took third with a time of 7:35.38.
On the men's side, Joe Parkhurst of Cleveland State set a meet record in the 50-yard Free with a time of 20.34. He broke the previous record of 20.47, set by Cole Grosshans of Miami (OH) in 2019. Cleveland State also set a meet record in the 800-Yard Free Relay, as the team of Jaden Daviller, Daniel Lyngaas, Gabe Hudgens and Jacopo Lanzo finished with a time of 6:41:16. The Vikings beat the previous meet record of 6:43.08 set by UC Santa Barbara in 2018.
