Zips Win Zips Classic - Set Two Meet Records on Day 2

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron swimming and diving program capped off its season-opening Zips Classic with a commanding victory while setting two meet records on the second day.
The Zips took first with 1,298 points while Xavier finished second with 777 points and Cleveland State taking third with 651 points.
The Zips started the second day of competition by taking the top two times in the 200-yard Free Relay. The Zips "Z" team of Felicia Klintemar (23.62), Hannah Trainer (23.15), Callie Parkes (22.70) and Ada Szwabinska (22.13) took first with a time of 1:31.60. Akron's "I" team of Abbey Cronin (24.21), Brienne Trumpower (22.95), Cora Spetz (23.43) and Martyna Piesko (23.16) took second with a time of 1:33.75.
Maggie Patterson took silver in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:28.18 while Klintemar clocked the top time of 53.06 in the 100-yard Butterfly. Piesko (55.27) and Trainer (55.30 took second and third, respectively in the Butterfly as well.
The Zips took gold in the 200-yard Free as Helena Lalkovic clocked a time of 1:49.82.
Claire Cox set a meet record in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.29 to take gold. Piesko would take the top time in the 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 1:01.29.
Elizabeth Noble led the Blue and Gold in the 3-meter diving event with the top score of 274.70.
Akron would once again set a meet record, this time in the 200-yard MR. The "Z" team of Piesko (25.36), Cox (27.36), Klintemar (22.10) and Szwabinska (22.10) finished with a time of 1:38.77. The previous meet record was set by the Zips (1:38.78) in 2021.
Elle Couture finished second in the 1650 free with a time of 16:49.73.
Akron took the top three times in the 200-yard backstroke, as Piesko (1:56.64), Avery Knight (1:59.04) and Abbey Cronin (2:00.54) helped the Blue and Gold sweep the event.
The 200-yard Breaststroke saw the Zips take two of the top three times, as Madelyn Bosler finished second (2:16.91) and Cox took third (2:18.14).
Ava Withey paced the Zips in the 200-yard Butterfly with a time of 2:03.47 to take third.
Akron concluded the Zips Classic with the top two times in the 400-yard Free Relay. The "Z" team of Klintemar (50.19), Trainer (51.28), Lalkovic (49.61), and Szwabinska (49.39) finished first with a time of 3:20.47. The "I" team of Piesko (50.25), Trumpower (51.31), Parkes (50.13), and Spetz (50.59) took second with a time of 3:22.28.
On the men's side, Cleveland State's 200-yard Free Relay team of Joe Parkhurst, Jacopo Lanzo, Justin Schneider and Daniel Lyngaas set a meet record with a time of 1:21.42. The previous top time was set by Miami (OH) in 2019 (1:21.58).
Tyler Schultze of Cleveland State set a meet record in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 54.59, breaking the previous record of 54.62 set by Ethan Saunders in 2024.
Quinn Cynor of Youngstown State set a meet record in the 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 48.46. The previous meet record was set by James Wray (49.25) in 2018.
Youngstown State's "A" team set a meet record in the 200 MR, as the team of Quinn Cynor, James Slessor, Jacob Gramer and Noah Smith finished with a time of 1:28.59. The previous record was set by Xavier (1:30.06) in 2024.
Daniel Lyngaas of Cleveland State set a meet record in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 44.89. He bested the previous meet record of 44.94 set by Gavin Redden in 2023.
Aiden Florio set a meet record in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:59.46. He broke the previous record of 2:00.36 by James Slessor of Youngstown State in 2024.
Youngstown State's "A" team of Quinn Cynor, Jacob Gramer, Lorenzo Beck and Noah Smith set a meet record in the 400-yard Free Relay with a time of 2:58.60. The previous record was set by Youngstown State (3:00.56) in 2024.
What's Next?
The Zips hit the road for a head-to-head showdown with Eastern Michigan on October 31 for a 4 p.m. start.
