AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team will host the Sixth Annual Al Campbell Invitational on Friday (Jan. 17) at the Stile Athletics Field House.

DIGITAL TICKETING: Mobile tickets are available for $10 at www.GoZips.com/tickets and must be purchased in advance. Mobile ticketing will be utilized for all home Akron track and field meets this season. Akron students with valid ID will be admitted free of charge. All fans should enter through the Akron student recreation center main entrance. Doors will open to the public at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

PARKING UPDATE: Akron track and field fans are encouraged to park in Lot 6, 9 and 10 (Surrounding the Field House off Vine and Union Streets) for Friday's track and field meet due to the Zips' home men's basketball game versus Ohio at James A. Rhode Arena at 6 p.m. Parking in other lots without appropriate UA permit is subject to ticketing by parking services.

The 32-event meet will commence with the women's long jump and pole vault and men's high jump, long jump and shot put at 4 p.m. before the meet concludes with the men's 4x400 relay at approximately 7:15 p.m.

TRIO OF ZIPS EARN MAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS: University of Akron sophomore Braylyn Farrington (Alabaster, Ala.), redshirt senior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) and senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) were honored by the Mid-American Conference as its Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (Jan. 14).
Farrington collected Men's Track Athlete of the Week accolades, while Garretson earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors. Nwokike was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Farrington turned in the fastest time 400M time in the league this past week crossing the line in 48.63 at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invite. Additionally, he helped the Zips posted the fastest 4x400 relay effort of the season and the No. 38 mark in the NCAA this spring in a time of 3:14.44.
Garretson captured the elite men's pole vault title at the East Coast Pole Vault Convention with a season-best clearance of 18-0.50 (5.50m). His effort stands as the No. 3 mark in the NCAA this spring.
Nwokike registered pair of second place finishes in the women's 200 and 400 meters crossing the line in career-best times of 23.94 and 54.56. Her efforts stand as the No. 10 (400M) and No. 14 (200M) times in the NCAA this season. Additionally, her performance in the 200 meters was one one-hundredth of a second shy of equaling the indoor school record, while the 54.56 time in the 400 meters stands as the third-fastest time in indoor program history.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2024 outdoor season as the Zips were rated among the top-30 in the Event Squad rankings released on May 14, 2024, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron was rated 19th nationally in the men's hammer and shot put, No. 23 in the men's 200 meters and No. 24 in the men's discus.
Additionally, the Zips were rated No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region in men's 200 meters, No.2 in men's discus, No. 3 in men's hammer and No. 4 in men's shot put.

ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2025 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron have 12 individual student-athletes and one relay team ranked in the top-50 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for the 2025 indoor campaign, including, Hunter Garretson, who was third in the nation in the men's pole vault (18-0.50/5.50m).
Additionally, Joy Nwokike is 10th in women's 400 meters (54.56) and 14th in women's 200 meters (23.94), junior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) is 21st in the women's 400 meters (55.08), redshirt senior Broke Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) is 21st in the women's weight throw (64-7/19.68m), redshirt senior Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) is 22nd in the men's 400 meters (48.00), sophomore AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) is 29th in men's 200 meters (21.44), redshirt freshman Jeffrey Usman (Warri, Nigeria) is 34th in the men's long jump (23-11.75/7.31m), freshman Delton Wright, (Berea, Ohio) is 40th in the men's high jump (6-8.75 (2.05m), senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) is 42nd in the women's pole vault (12-11.50/3.95m), redshirt senior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green, Ohio) is 44th in the men's shot put (57-6.25/17.53m), Braylyn Farrington is 46th in the men's 400 meters (48.47), and freshman Garett Boe (Chesapeake, Va.) is 49th in the men's pole vault (16-6.75/5.05m), while the men's 4x400 relay team of Farrington, Jordan, sophomore Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) and Harkelroad owns the No. 38 time of 3:14.44.

GARRETSON NAMED ELITE 90 WINNER: Hunter Garretson was the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2024 NCAA Division Men's Track and Field Indoor Championship.
Garretson, who is majoring in mathematics, boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA, was presented with the award during a presentation on March 8.
Winning the honor for the second consecutive season, Garretson became only the third multiple-time recipient of the award in Division I men's track and field joining Cincinnati's Adrian Valles (2017-Indoor | 2018-Indoor) and Nebraska's John Welk (2013-Outdoor | 2014-Outdoor).
The honor was the third time a Zip has garnered the distinguished honor joining Tyler Sanda, who won the award as a member of the Akron men's soccer team in 2015.
