Nicholasville, Ky. – Akron newcomer, junior Maisarah Hezri (Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia) led the Zips scoring through the initial 18 holes of play at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by Kentucky.
On Sunday, Hezri fired an opening round 77 (+5) at the Champion Trace at Keene Trace Golf Club (Par 72, 6,261 yards). Akron freshman Sohniya Chandra Mohan (Selangor, Malaysia) followed with a 78 (+6) in her collegiate debut, while juniors Emily Liptak (Akron, Ohio), Avery Wright (Jackson, Ohio) and Hridhika Vora (Mumbai, Maharashtra) rounded out the scoring. Liptak carded an 82 (+10), Wright posted an 84 (+12) and Vora 87 (+15) in their season debuts for Akron. Sophomore Katrin Horn Danielsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) registered an 88 (+16) as an individual.
As a team, Akron posted a 321 (+33) opening round tally with 36 holes left to play over the next two days. The second 18-hole round is set for Monday, Sept. 9 with split tee times off holes No. 1 and 10 at 8:30-10:20 a.m. Vora will start the action for Akron at 9:30 a.m. from hole No. 10, followed by Wright (9:40), Liptak (9:50), Chandra Mohan (10:00) and Hezri (10:10). Horn Danielsdottir will tee-off from hole No. 1 at 10:10 a.m.
