Zips Down Central Michigan 9-1 on Saturday

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -Â The Akron Zips took a 4-0 lead in the second inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 9-1 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday.
Jared Schaeffer (3-6) started on the mound and picked up the win for Akron (13-33, 8-15). He went eight innings, giving up one run on nine hits, allowing one walk and striking out five. Yassir Kahook also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits.
Akron was effective at the plate against the Chippewas. The Zips recorded eight hits, nine walks and got hit by five pitches.
Sam Seeker, Max Bowman and Nicky Sackett all had two hit days. Seeker had a pair of doubles and a RBI while Jack Poist had a triple and added two RBI on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Akron's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of Bowman.
Akron held the Chippewas scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. The Akron offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Seeker, which brought the Zips' lead to 8-0.
Akron held Central Michigan without a run before building their lead to 9-0 in the seventh inning. The Zips picked up a run on an RBI triple off the bat of Poist, scoring Sackett from first. Central Michigan put one run up in the eighth but would be unable to score again.
GAME NOTES
