YPSILANTI, Mich. - Behind a complete game from Jared Schaeffer and home runs from Michael Sprockett and Henry Hayman, the Akron baseball team defeated Eastern Michigan 7-2 on Saturday.

Schaeffer (1-6) got the win for Akron (8-30, 3-14). The right-hander went nine innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.

At the plate, the Zips were led by Hayman, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Sprockett's lone hit of the day was a solo shot home run. Sam Seeker and Max Bowman also added to the scoring as the pair combined for two hits and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Evan Bottone came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.

The Zips lost the lead they built in the first but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 2-1. Akron picked up a run on Sprockett's one-out solo home run to level the score at 2-2.

That 2-2 tie turned into a 5-2 Akron lead in the eighth. The Zips scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer from Hayman that scored Charlie Schebler and Seeker.

Akron held the Eagles scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Fisher Pyatt and Bottone came in to score the two Zips runs in the frame, bringing the Akron advantage to 7-2. The score remained 7-2 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.
