BOSTON, Mass. – University of Akron track and field redshirt junior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) came up short in his bid to earn his first national title in the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday (March 8).
Coming into the competition owning the No. 2 mark in the NCAA this season at 18-9.25 (5.72m), Garretson passed at the opening three bars of 17-4.50 (5.30m), 17-8.50 (5.40m) and 18-0.50 (5.50m), respectively.
Entering the competition at 18-2.50 (5.55m), Garretson was unsuccessful on eclipsing the bar on each of his three attempts at the height.
