Akron to Face Creighton in First Round of NCAA Tournament in Pittsburgh

AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron men's basketball team learned its fate for the 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship on Sunday, March 17. The 14-seeded Zips (24-10) will battle the third-seeded Creighton Bluejays (23-9) in first round action on Thursday, March 21 at PPG Arena in Pittsburgh, Penn. as part of the Midwest Regional.
The Zips are 1-3 all-time against Creighton with the most recent meeting coming in 2016 when the Bluejays won 82-70 in Omaha, Neb. This is the second post-season meeting between the two schools, with Akron and Creighton meeting in the NIT on March 16, 2006, when the Zips fell 71-60.
The Zips and Bluejays will tip at 1:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on TNT.

The winner of Akron-Creighton will advance to face the winner of South Carolina and Oregon in second-round play.Â
Akron will be making its sixth overall NCAA Division I Tournament appearance after qualifying in 1986, 2009, 2011,2013, 2022.
