FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Led by redshirt junior pole vaulter Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio), the University of Akron track and field team opened the Tyson Invitational on Friday (Feb. 9) with strong performances from 17 Zips across eight events.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Garretson equaled a career-best mark of 18-5.25 (5.62m) which tied for the top clearance in the competition, but he placed third based on jumps.
• Senior Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) finished seventh in the men's long jump with a season-best mark of 23-8.25 (7.22m).
• Redshirt senior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a mark of 63-10.25 (19.46m) to place 11th in the men's weight throw.
• Redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) added a mark of 53-3.75 (16.25m) in the women's weight throw.
