SPARTANBURG, SC --Senior Tiffany Stevens went 1-for-2 with an RBI as the Akron Zips fell to the Monmouth Hawks on Sunday by a final score of 6-2.

Stevens led the way offensively for the Zips, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Brooke Sivek compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4. Sophomore Haley Croyle struck out six while in the circle for Akron.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Sivek came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.

The game remained tied until the third inning, when the Zips got going again on offense. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Stevens, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Zips. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Monmouth scored five times over the remaining four innings to grab the 6-2 win.

GAME NOTES
» Akron pitchers faced 29 Monmouth hitters in the game, allowing two ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out seven.
» Stevens led the Zips at the plate, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Sivek also contributed offensively going 2-for-4.

The Zips will return to South Carolina for the Furman Tournament. They will kick off the weekend with a doubleheader on Friday, March 1 against South Dakota at 4:30 p.m. and Furman at 7 p.m.
