AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's soccer garnered goals from five different players, including a brace from redshirt senior Emil Jaaskelainen (Bolton, England), en route to a 6-1 victory past Wright State on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
How it Happened
The Zips assumed a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute (12:57) when Jaaskelainen netted his team-leading 10th goal of the season on a successful penalty kick.
Akron carried the 1-0 advantage into the intermission outshooting the Raiders in the opening stanza, 7-2.
Wright State squared the contest at one at the 60:06 mark on a goal from Brayden Tester.
Twenty-seven seconds later at the 60:33 mark the Zips went ahead to stay when redshirt senior Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) found the back of the net off an assist from senior Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal (Carbondale, Ill.).
Jaaskelainen registered his fourth multi-goal performance of the season striking a ball into the net in the 71st minute (70:14) to give Akron a 3-1 lead.
Sophomore Daniel Firek (Mississauga, Ontario) collected his first career goal off an assist from Clapier at the 71:54 mark before junior Stefan Dobrijevic (Uniontown, Ohio) posted his first goal of the year in the 80th minute (79:01) courtesy of an assist from junior Maximus Barboto (Wayne, N.J.).
Redshirt freshman Caleb Borneo (Morgantown, W.Va.) capped the scoring in the match delivering his first career tally off assists from Firek and redshirt freshman Ryan Kopay (Pittsburgh, Pa.) at the 89:05 mark.
Game Notes
- Redshirt junior GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) recorded five saves for the Zips out of seven total Raiders shots.
- Akron totaled 10 shots on goal, including three from Jaaskelainen.
