AKRON, Ohio - The fifth-rated University of Akron men's soccer team secured a 2-1 win over LIU Friday (Sept. 8) at home at FirstEnergy Stadium.
How it Happened
Akron broke the 0-0 tie when junior Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal (Carbondale, Ill.) scored his first goal of the season in the 26th minute, assisted by junior Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.).
The Zips took a 2-0 lead on a goal from senior Josef Paulus (Hinckley, Ohio) -- his third goal of the season and second consecutive game-winning tally -- in the 81st minute, assisted by Shokalook and sophomore Stefan Dobrijevic (Uniontown, Ohio).
LIU narrowed the gap to 2-1 on Jeffery Vanegas' 82nd-minute goal.
Game Notes
- Redshirt sophomore GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) totaled four saves for the Zips out of 10 total Sharks shots.
- Akron recorded 11 shots on goal.
