Akron Grabs 3-1 Victory Over Seton Hall

AKRON, Ohio - The fifth-ranked University of Akron men's soccer team got a pair of goals from junior Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.) in a 3-1 win over Seton Hall Friday (Sept. 29) at home at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The victory marked Akron's first-ever triumph in the BIG EAST Conference.
How it Happened
Akron opened the scoring when Shokalook recorded his fifth goal of the season in the 32nd minute, assisted by juniors Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) and Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario).
The Pirates evened the game at one on a penalty goal from James Boote in the 43rd minute.
Akron regained the lead in the 66th minute when senior Alejandro Varela's (A Coruna, Spain) delivered a penalty kick goal for what proved to be the game-winning tally.
The Zips concluded the scoring with 85th-minute goal from Shokalook, his sixth goal of the season, and second brace on the campaign. Junior Gyuwon Chong (Kansas City, Mo.) assisted the goal.
Game Notes
- Redshirt sophomore GK Mitch Budler (LIncoln, Neb.) piled up two saves for the Zips out of seven total Pirates shots.
- Akron peppered 10 shots on goal.
