CLEVELAND, Ohio - University of Akron men's cross country freshman Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) was honored by the Mid-American Conference as its Runner of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Masai captured the men's 8K title at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open on Friday (Sept. 15) in a career-best time of 24:22.65 to lead the Zips to the team title. Masai captured the individual race title for the second consecutive meet for Akron.

The Zips return to competition traveling to Notre Dame, Ind., for the Joe Piane Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 29.
