WVU Last Chance Meet Up Next for Akron Track and Field

WVU LAST CHANCE MEET: MEET INFORMATION (PDF) | LIVE RESULTS
AKRON, Ohio – In their final tune-up before hosting next week's Mid-American Conference Championships, the University of Akron men's and women's track and field team is set the compete at the WVU Last Chance Meet hosted by West Virginia on Saturday, May 6.
UP NEXT: The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams travels to Morgantown, W.Va., to partake in the WVU Last Chance Meet on Saturday.
The meet will commence with the men's discus, pole vault and triple jump along with the women's high jump at 1 p.m. before the meet concludes with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 9:20 p.m.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams has garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2023 outdoor season as the Zips are rated in the Event Squad rankings released on May 1, 2023, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron ranks third nationally in the men's hammer, 22nd in the men's pole vault and 26th in the men's shot put.
ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2023 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has seven student-athletes ranked in the top-50 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the 2023 outdoor campaign, including, redshirt sophomore Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio), who is fifth in the nation in the men's pole vault (18-8.75/5.71m).
Also rated among the top-50 is freshman Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) (38th in men's 5,000 meters – 13:39.65), redshirt sophomore Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) (40th in men's 400-meter hurdles – 51.29), sophomore Oscar Prieto (Barcelona, Spain) (46th in men's pole vault – 17-3.50/5.27m), redshirt sophomore William Gross (Newfane, N.Y.) (46th in men's hammer – 213-8/65.13m), redshirt senior Milton Wilson (Streetsboro, Ohio) (48th in men's hammer – 212-5/64.75m) and redshirt junior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) (50th in men's hammer – 211-11/64.59m)
GARRETSON NAMED ELITE 90 WINNER: Hunter Garretson was the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2023 NCAA Division Men's Track and Field Indoor Championship.
Garretson, majoring in mathematics, boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA was presented with the award during the presentation on March 11. He became the second Zip to earn the distinguished honor joining Tyler Sanda, who won the award as a member of the Akron men's soccer team in 2015.
GARRETSON GARNERS ALL-AMERICA ACCOLADES: Hunter Garretson garnered Second-Team All-America accolades on the strength of a 12th-place showing (18-1/5.51m) at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of New Mexico on March 10.
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips have posted a pair of school records from Brian Masai in the men's 5,000 and 10,000 meters as part of six overall top-five performances in program history to the record book during the 2023 outdoor campaign.
