Zippy Defeated Roo 24-13 in Akron Football Spring Game

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron football program capped a successful spring campaign with the annual Spring Game as the Zippy squad registered a 24-13 triumph past the Roo team unit on Saturday, April 29 before an energized crowd at the InfoCision Stadium.

Team Zippy outscored team Roo 14-3 in the second half as redshirt senior QB Jeff Undercuffler, Jr. (Burlington, N.J.) led the offensive attack for the Zippy team. He completed 14-of-25 attempts for 139 yards with two touchdowns. Redshirt sophomore WR Myles Walker (Ellwood City, Pa.) and sophomore WR Bobby Golden (Miami, Fla.) were on the receiving end of those TD passes. Walker caught four passes for 58 yards and a TD, while Golden's lone reception registered 12 yards for the score.

In addition, Redshirt senior RB Lorenzo Lingard (Orange City, Fla.) found the endzone while gaining 38 yards of total offense with six carries for 24 yards and two receptions for 14 yards. Redshirt senior WR Daniel George (Fort Washington, Md.) added four receptions for 45 yards.

For the Roo squad, redshirt freshman QB Dijon Jennings (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) tossed a touchdown pass to redshirt sophomore WR Dakota Thomas (Atlanta, Ga.). Jennings went 3-of-5 behind center with 47 yards passing, while Thomas caught two passes for 44 yards and a touchdown.

The Zips kicking unit connected with three field goals as sophomore Noah Perez (Phoenix, Ariz.) split the uprights from 47 and 44 yards for team Roo, and freshman Owen Wiley (Avon Lake, Ohio) completed a 29 yard attempt for team Zippy.

Redshirt sophomores S DiMarco Johnson (Irmo, S.C.) and CB Darrian Lewis (Akron, Ohio) secured one interception each.
