Strong Performances Highlight ZIps' Efforts at Ashland Alumni Open

ASHLAND, Ohio - University of Akron track and field team captured 14 victories as part of 30 overall top-three finishes to highlight the Zips' efforts on the final day of the Ashland Alumni Open on Saturday (April 29).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Redshirt senior Milton Wilson (Streetsboro, Ohio) won the men's hammer on Friday (April 28) on the strength of career-best and No. 2 mark in outdoor program history of 212-5 (64.75m).
• Redshirt sophomore Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) eclipsed a facility-record mark of 18-1 (5.51m) to take the title in the men's pole vault.
• Senior Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished first in the men's 400 meters in 47.34, while redshirt senior Quentin Woodall (Cleveland, Ohio) crossed the line first in a winning time of 10.74.
• Redshirt sophomore Janay Bass (Akron, Ohio) won the women's 400 meters in 57.80.
• Senior Marc Carrera (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed first in the men's 800 meters in a time of 1:52.57, while redshirt junior Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) captured the women's 800 meters in 2:11.17.
• Redshirt sophomore Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) triumphed in the men's 400-meters hurdles in a time of 52.89.
• Redshirt sophomore Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) edged the field in the 5,000 meters in 17:41.97.
• Junior Haruki Sakai (Katori, Japan) won the men's long jump with a career-best mark of 24-3.25/7.40m).
• Junior Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) captured the men's triple jump with a mark of 48-11 (14.91m).
• The men's 4x100 relay team of freshman Caden Dawson (Chardon, Ohio), Sanders, Woodall and freshman Benjamin Hudak (Tallmadge, Ohio) bested the field in a time of 41.31, while the 4x400 relay squad of Sakai, Woodall, Sanders and Harkelroad won in a time of 3:14.79.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of sophomore Adaeze Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria), Bass, redshirt sophomore Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) and Makenna Heimlich won the race in a time of 3:51.24.
