MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – University of Akron redshirt sophomore William Gross (Newfane, N.Y.) captured the men's hammer to headline the efforts of the Zips' men's and women's track and field team on the opening day of the Stan Romanoski Open hosted by West Virginia on Friday, March 17.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Gross punctuated Akron's performances in the men's hammer with a mark of 195-4 (59.54m) to spark the Zips to capture four of the top-five marks in the competition.
• Redshirt senior Milton Wilson (Streetsboro, Ohio) placed second with a mark of 190-8 (58.11m), while redshirt junior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Lane Graham (Killbuck, Ohio) recorded throws of 189-4 (57.72m) and 167-2 (50.96m) to place third and fifth, respectively.
• Freshman Sydney Hale (Beaver, Pa.) was Akron's top finisher in the women's hammer with a mark of 112-1 (34.17m)
