AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron lacrosse team was edged in its home opener as Gardner-Webb registered a come-from-behind 18-10 decision at the Stile Athletics Field House on Sunday, March 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Akron jumped out to a 3-0 advantage on the strength of tallies from senior Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.), junior Jacqueline Glassey (Kildeer, Ill.) and sophomore Jaelyn Clinkscales (Rochester, N.Y.) at the 13:20, 12:55 and 11:23 marks, respectively.
• The Bulldogs answered scoring six of the next seven goals, interrupted only by the second tally of the afternoon by Kiefer (7:02-1st), to assume a 6-4 advantage after the first quarter.
• The Zips netted goals from Kiefer (12:52-2nd), Clinkscales (10:00-2nd) and freshman Macy Vail (Joppatowne, Md.) (8:40-2nd) in the second period.
• Kiefer (13:00-4th), senior Sarah Rech (Gibsonia, Pa.) (11:49-4th) and junior Chloe Hererra (Houston, Texas) capped the scoring for Akron in the fourth quarter.
• Freshman GK Kylan Rhude (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) tallied registered seven saves for the Zips.
