STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS - The University of Akron women's softball squad split a pair of contests on the second day of the Tarleton Invitational hosted by Tarleton State on Saturday, Feb. 18, rallying to down Creighton, 4-3, after dropping a 4-3 decision to the host Texans.

"I thought we really competed today," Akron head coach Craig Nicholson commented. "Our defense was very good, and we battled all day at the plate. We had some outstanding at-bats late in both games and found a way to win the second one."

Three consecutive two-out doubles in their final at-bat lifted the Zips to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Bluejays in the nightcap.

Trailing 3-1 entering its final at-bat, sophomore Alexis Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) delivered a double to drive in freshman Meagan Lee (Leander, Texas). Campbell scored herself after advancing to third on the throw and coming across with the equalizing run on an error.

Redshirt junior Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) followed with a double to left field and scored the eventual winning run on a two-bag hit to center field from redshirt junior Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio).

Redshirt senior P Olivia Otani (Canton, Ohio) and freshman P Haley Croyle (Hubbard, Ohio) combined to deny the Bluejays in the bottom of the frame on the mound to secure the triumph.

Campbell led the Zips' offensive efforts in the affair with a 3-for-4 performance with a pair of RBI, while Bryant and DeVoe each delivered a pair of hits.

In the opener, the Texans scored the first three runs of the game with a single run in the first inning and a pair of tallies in the third to assume a 3-0 lead.

The Zips pushed across a tally in the top of the fifth inning as freshman Brooke Sivek (Boerne, Texas) opened the frame with a lead-off single. She advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from redshirt junior Molly McChesney (Verona, Wis.) before base hit down the line in left field from Lee put a pair of Zips on the corners. Akron grounded into a double play, but Sivek crossed the dish to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Akron opened its final at-bat in the seventh inning loading the bases on a walk by freshman Emma Seper (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and back-to-back singles from Sivek and McChesney. Lee followed delivering a two-run single to right field to square the contest at three.

Tarleton State responded in the bottom of the frame with a walk-off double to secure a 4-3 victory.

Sivek finished the contest 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Lee added a pair of base knocks and two RBI to go along with a 2-for-3 effort from McChesney.
