STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS - The University of Akron softball team erupted for six runs in their final at-bat to lift the Zips to a 7-1 decision past Northern Colorado in the finale of the Tarleton Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 19.

"We hung around and found a way to win late," Akron head coach Craig Nicholson commented. "I thought Alexa (DiFeo) coming in and getting a huge out with the bases loaded in the sixth was the key and gave us a bunch of momentum that we took advantage of."

With score tied at one and the automatic runner placed on second base to start extra innings, Akron loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning on a fielding error and a bunt single by redshirt junior Molly McChesney (Verona, Wis.). Freshman Meagan Lee (Leander, Texas) followed with a single up the middle to plate freshman Brooke Sivek (Boerne, Texas) and junior Madison Dudek (Uniontown, Ohio) to give the Zips a 3-1 lead.

An RBI bunt single from sophomore Alexis Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) allowed McChesney to score before freshman Abigail Scheller (North Hill, Pa.) drove across Lee on an RBI bunt single to extend the Zips' advantage to 5-1.

Redshirt junior Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio) capped the scoring with a two RBI single to right field to push across freshman Emma Seper (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and Campbell.

Freshman P Haley Croyle (Hubbard, Ohio) allowed one run over 5.2 innings and struck out three batters, while redshirt senior Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) earned the win with 2.1 frames of scoreless relief.

Lee finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run score to spark Akron offensively, while DeVoe, McChesney and Scheller collected two hits apiece.
