CHATTANOOGA, TENN. - The University of Akron softball team scored three runs in the first inning and didn't look back as the Zips posted their third straight victory with an 8-0 decision past Memphis in the opening game of the Frost Classic hosted by Chattanooga on Friday, Feb. 24.

"I thought we played really well today," Akron head coach Craig Nicholson commented. "Alexa was dominant, and we made a couple of good plays defensively and our approach at the plate was solid. We were patient and got good pitches to hit and really executed well early in the game."

Redshirt senior P Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) tossed a complete-game two-hitter and struck out a pair of batters to spark the Zips to victory.

Akron's offense took early advantage plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning as the first two batters reached base before a sacrifice bunt from freshman Meagan Lee (Leander, Texas) moved two runners into scoring position. Back-to-back singles from sophomore Alexis Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) and redshirt junior Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) gave the Zips a 2-0 lead. A Memphis throwing error allowed Campbell to score to cap the scoring in the frame.

A two-out bases loaded single from sophomore Autumn Bailey (Ashland, Ohio) extended Akron's lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning before redshirt junior Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) collected a two-run single to make it 6-0 in favor of the Zips.

A fielding error in the bottom of the fourth inning pushed Akron's lead to 7-0.

A bases loaded walk by freshman Brooke Sivek (Boerne, Texas) culminated the scoring and the game in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the triumph for the Zips.

Bailey finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI to spark Akron offensively, while Stevens, Bryant, Campbell, Lee and Sivek added two, one, one, one and one RBI, respectively.
