Akron Men's Soccer Announces Spring Exhibition Schedule

2023 AKRON MEN'S SOCCER SPRING ROSTER
AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's soccer team will face a challenging spring exhibition schedule, one that includes six matches at FirstEnergy Stadium, Zips' 11th-year head coach Jared Embick announced on Friday.
Akron is set to return 11 starters in 2023, including 2022 All-Mid-American Conference performers, junior Jonas Buechte (Rantigen, Germany), redshirt juniors Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) and Johnny Fitzgerald (Tallahassee, Fla.), junior Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario), redshirt senior Will Jackson (Hudson, Ohio), senior Joel Sangwa (Phoenix, Ariz.) and juniors Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.) and Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal (Carbondale, Ill.), from a squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 35th time in program history.
The Zips will also be bolstered by the return of key 2022 contributors in redshirt sophomore Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.), junior Gyuwon Chong (Kansas City, Mo.), sophomore Stefan Dobrijevic (Uniontown, Ohio), junior Josh Hallenberger (San Antonio, Texas), sophomores Ashton Kamdem (West Chester, Ohio) and Terence Okoeguale (Pulheim, Germany), senior Josef Paulus (Hinckley, Ohio) and redshirt senior Sam Tojaga (Erie, Pa.).
The exhibition games are part of the squad's non-championship spring season with results and statistics not counting towards NCAA play.
The Zips open their spring slate visiting Pittsburgh, Pa., to battle the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. The Zips return to Pennsylvania a week later to battle Robert Morris on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. in Moon Township, Pa.
The Zips commence the month of March traveling to Hamilton, Ontario to square off against the Hamilton Forge on Sunday, March 5 in a 2 p.m. tilt.
Akron welcomes the Rush Canada Club's U20 and U21 squads to FirstEnergy Stadium for 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. showdowns on Saturday, March 11.
The Zips kick off the month of April hosting St. Bonaventure and John Carroll in a doubleheader at FirstEnergy Stadium on Saturday, April 1 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
Akron concludes its exhibition campaign hosting a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8 at FirstEnergy Stadium versus Purdue Fort Wayne and Thomas More at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
All spring exhibition contests at FirstEnergy Stadium are open to the public and free of charge.
