AKRON, Ohio - The 11th-ranked University of Akron rifle team is set to open its 2023-24 campaign traveling to Morgantown, W.Va., to square off against No. 1 West Virginia on Saturday (Oct. 7) in the Great America Rifle Conference opener for both squads at 10 a.m.

Senior Gavin Perkowski (Bolivar, Ohio) leads the Zips' returners this season after posting team-best averages of 1175, 592 and 583, respectively, in the combined, air and smallbore rifles. Junior Alexis Kirk (Clarence Center, N.Y.) equaled Perkowski in the smallbore registering a team-high 592 average, while sophomore Andrew Duross (Marlborough, Mass.) matched him with a team-best 583 average in the smallbore.

Akron will also see the return of redshirt seniors Katie Paltz (Edison, N.J.), Jakob Rankin (Granbury, Texas) and Brendan Seitz (Milford, Mass.), seniors Erin Schnupp (Gorham, Maine) and Samantha Shultz (Fort Wayne, Ind.), juniors Rachel Engels (Meridian, Idaho) and Cory Stroupe (Brasstown, N.C.) and sophomores Jordyn Ewine (Buffalo, N.D.), Rachael Paddock (Perry, N.Y.) and Natalia Siek (Flemington, N.J.).

Additionally, the Zips welcome four newcomers Aubrey Anderson (Kuna, Idaho), Tyler DeKruger (Lancaster, N.Y.), Diane Heschel (Oak Harbor, Ohio) and Elizabeth Lilly (Marble Falls, Texas).
