OMAHA, Neb. - A late rally came up just short for the University of Akron men's soccer team as the Zips fell 3-2 on the road against Creighton on Wednesday (Oct. 18) at Morrison Stadium.
How it Happened
After the two sides battled through a scoreless opening half, Creighton began the scoring when Alfie Pope scored in the 48th minute, assisted by Giorgio Probo and Mark O'Neill.
The Bluejays extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Omar Ramadan in the 63rd minute.
Creighton went ahead 3-0 on Pope's 84th-minute goal, assisted by Jackson Castro and Probo.
The Zips got on the board with an 89th-minute goal from senior Joel Sangwa (Phoenix, Ariz.), his first goal of the season. Junior Jonas Buechte (Rantigen, Germany) assisted the goal.
Akron made it a 3-2 game on senior Will Jackson's (Hudson, Ohio) second goal of the season in the 90th minute, assisted by junior Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.).
Game Notes
- Playing in his home state of Nebraska, redshirt sophomore GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) collected one save for the Zips out of 10 total Bluejays shots.
- Akron outshot Creighton, 18-10, including totaling seven shots on goal.
