CLEVELAND, Ohio - The third-rated University of Akron men's soccer team got a massive performance from junior Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.), who recorded his second career hat trick and fourth consecutive multi-goal effort in a 3-0 shutout victory over Cleveland State on Tuesday (Oct. 10) at Krenzler Field.
How it Happened
After the two rivals battled through a scoreless opening half, Akron broke a 0-0 tie when Shokalook notched his 11th goal of the season in the 66th minute, assisted by redshirt senior Will Jackson (Hudson, Ohio) and senior Joel Sangwa (Phoenix, Ariz.).
The Zips tacked on another score on a goal from Shokalook - his 12th goal of the season - in the 69th minute, assisted by sophomore Stefan Dobrijevic (Uniontown, Ohio) and junior Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah).
Akron expanded its lead to 3-0 on Shokalook's 74th-minute goal, his 13th of the season. Dobrijevic assisted the goal.
Game Notes
- Redshirt sophomore GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.)earned his sixth shutout of the season totaling two saves for the Zips out of four total Vikings shots.
- Akron pounded 11 shots on goal.
