Akron Volleyball Hosts Western Michigan for Two Matches on Homecoming Weekend

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron volleyball team hosts Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan for 2022 Homecoming weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, at James A. Rhodes Arena. ABOUT THE ZIPS
Akron, under first-year head coach Tyson Norton stands 3-11 overall and 0-3 in league play after falling to Northern Illinois in MAC opening weekend. Teagan Ochaya and Faith Johnson lead the Zips attack with 178 and 142 kills, respectively. Baylee Vought adds to the offensive efforts with 244 assists followed by Avery Brown with 258 assists. Vought has issued 15 service aces for a team-best, while Ochaya and Johnson delivered 12 and 11. Defensively, Lauren Latka anchors the ground defense with 2.85 digs per set (137 digs), followed by Ochaya and Johnson with 2.42 and 2.25 digs per set. Jayda Young, Karleighana Jones, Ellen Kinnaird and Ochaya provide the arial defense as Young leads the way with 34 blocks, followed by Jones (32), Kinnaird (29) and Ochaya (25).

The Broncos are 10-5 overall and 2-1 in MAC play, posting league wins over Buffalo (3-0 and 3-0) before falling to Northern Illinois (3-2). Maggie King leads the team and the MAC in kills (202) and total points (234.0) She ranks second in the MAC in kills/set (3.67), points/set (4.25), service aces (26) and aces/set (0.47). Logan Case sits atop the MAC and ranks second nationally with 11.49 assists/set and 632 assists.
