Akron Baseball Headlines 2022 Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of Akron baseball program headlined the Mid-American Conference 2022 Academic All-MAC selections as 16 Zips garnered Academic All-MAC accolades, the league announced on Tuesday.

A total of 122 student-athletes were named to this year's squad, including graduates Nick Arrivo, Justin Barr, Brady Biglin, Jackson Hickert, Bryant Shellenbarger, Conor Steinbaugh; seniors Taed Heydinger, Jackson Miller, Matt Radtka, Tate Wargo; juniors Brett Dietrich, Greyson Droste, Kaito Hara, Yassir Kahook; sophomores Breyden Cavey and Sammy Tortorella.

Akron baseball posted a 3.021 team GPA for 2021-22 as 12-of-15 Zips' squads garnered a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better, paced by a program-best 3.543 GPA from swimming and diving. Additionally, women's soccer (3.373), women's basketball (3.36), volleyball (3.330), women's track and field (3.318), golf (3.313), softball (3.242), rifle (3.216), cross country (3.141), lacrosse (3.102) and men's soccer (3.058) surpassed the 3.0 cumulative GPA mark.

Bowling Green and Western Michigan followed with 15 honorees each, while Ball State and Central Michigan each tallied 11 student-athletes.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
