Phillips Records 3 Hits in Akron's Loss to Toledo

AKRON, Ohio -Â The Akron Zips got a boost from Kelton Phillips, who collected three hits in a 7-3 loss to the Toledo Rockets Saturday.
In addition to his three hits, Phillips had an RBI to lead the Zips. Blake Bowen put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Gio Melchione also contributed for Akron, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double. Tucker Biehl added two hits while scoring a run and walking once in the loss
Elijah Griffith (2-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (11-14, 4-7). John Allen was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going five shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 7-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Phillips came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips kept the Rockets off the board before narrowing the gap further in the seventh. Akron pushed across a run on Bowen's one-out RBI double, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Rockets.
Akron held the Rockets off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 7-3 in the ninth. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Phillips. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
