AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams travels to Morgantown, W.Va., on Saturday, May 7, to participate at the West Virginia Last Chance Meet hosted by the Mountaineers.

UP NEXT: In their final tune-up for next week's Mid-American Conference Championships, the University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Morgantown, W.Va., to participate WVU Last Chance Meet on Saturday, May 7.

The event will kick off on with the men's discus, pole vault and triple jump along with the women's high jump at 1 p.m. Competition on the track commences with the men's 4x100 relay at 4 p.m. before the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase culminates the meet at 9:20 p.m.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams have garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2022 outdoor season as the Zips are rated in the Event Squad rankings released on May 2, 2022, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.

Akron is ranked eighth nationally in the men's men's long jump as well as rating among the top 25 in four different events.

The Zips also rate ninth in the men's hammer, 23rd in the women's long jump and 25th in the women's 400-meter hurdles.

The Akron men and women are ranked ninth in the latest Great Lakes Regional polls.

ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2022 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has three student-athletes currently ranked in the top-30 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the 2022 outdoor campaign, led by freshman Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio), who is fifth in the nation in the men's pole vault (18-4.75/5.61m).

Additionally, junior Jacqueline Pokuaah (Akron, Ohio), who is 10th in the nation in the women's triple jump (44-4.75/13.53m) and freshman Fegor Clifford (Delta State, Nigeria) is 15th in the women's 400-meter hurdles (57.41).

CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: Five Zips posted top-five program performances at the Clark Wood Invitational led by redshirt sophomore Laurel Bristow (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio), who recorded the No. 2 marks, respectively, in outdoor program history in the women's javelin (164-1/50.02m) and men's hammer (208-4/63.49m).

Tallying the No. 3 performances in the men's pole vault and men's triple jump were Hunter Garretson and sophomore Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia), who recorded marks of 18-4.75 (5.61m) and 51-0.25 (15.55m).

Freshman Adaeze Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) added the No. 4 mark in the women's 100-meter hurdles crossing the line in a career-best time of 13.71.

AKRON GARNERS THREE MAC TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS: Fegor Clifford and Laurel Bristow along with Hunter Garretson were honored by the Mid-American Conference as its Women's Track and Field and Men's Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday, May 4.

Overall, the Zips picked up weekly conference accolades for 14th, 15th and 16th times, respectively, in 2022.
Garretson eclipsed a career-best mark of 18-4.75 (5.61m) to win the men's pole vault at the Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday, April 30. His effort stands as the top mark in the MAC and fifth-best mark in the NCAA this season and No. 3 performance in outdoor program history.

Clifford won the women's 400-meter hurdles at the Clark Wood Invitational on Friday, April 29, crossing the line in 58.31. She owns the top time (57.41) in the MAC this season and 15th-fastest in the NCAA. Additionally, she ran on the 4x400 relay team that placed second in a time of 3:46.51.

Bristow garnered the second-best mark in outdoor program history in the women's javelin winning the event at the Clark Wood Invitational with a career-best throw of 164-1 (50.02m). Her performance stands as the No. 35 mark in the NCAA this season.
