Amani Lyles Commits to Play Hoops at Akron

AKRON, Ohio –Akron head men's basketball coach John Groce announced Amani Lyles signed to join the Zips basketball family and don the blue and gold for the 2022-23 season, the program announced on Monday.

"Amani is a high character person with a college ready body that will add physicality to our frontline," Groce said. "We love his competitiveness and motor. Amani is a great addition to this class and we look forward to him arriving in June."

Lyles is a 6-7 forward from Columbus, Ohio, who helped lead Beechcroft High School to three consecutive City Championships and a 22-0 record in league play since the 2020 season. Lyles averaged a double-double throughout his career with the Cougars, recording 20.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game as a senior. He eclipsed the 1,000-career point total in 57 games played, averaging 17.7 points and 10.0 rebounds.

Lyles was a First Team All-City selection in 2022, while leading the Cougars to the DII District Finals. In 2021, the Cougars fell in the district semifinal game and the 2020 team won the DII District Championship before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
