AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron lacrosse sophomore Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) and junior Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) each netted four goals, but a second-half deficit proved too much for the Zips to overcome as Youngstown State earned a 17-14 Mid-American Conference triumph past Akron at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field on Saturday, April 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The opening quarter of the match proved to be a high-scoring affair as the two teams combined to score 13 goals in the first period.
• The Penguins scored the initial two goals of the afternoon before back-to-back tallies from senior Anna Dennison (Fallston, Md.) and Boyd at the 11:38 and 11:25 marks, respectively, squared the contest at two.
• A goal from sophomore Jacqueline Glassey (Kildeer, Ill.) at the 6:35 mark of the first period was sandwiched between Youngstown State connecting on four of the next five tallies to assume a 6-3 lead.
• The Zips whittled the advantage to one, 6-5, following goals from Dennison and freshman Izzy Szejk (Camp Hill, Pa.) with 3:33 and 1:46 remaining before halftime, respectively. Earning the assist on Szejk's tally was sophomore Chloe Hererra (Houston, Texas).
• Akron found the back of the net on four of the first five goals of the second quarter square the contest at nine following a goal from Kunttu at the 7:40 mark. Also registering goals in the stretch was Kunttu at the 13:41 mark and a pair of scores from Boyd at the 11:38 and 11:00 marks, respectively. Junior Abby McMullen (Medina, Ohio) garnered the assist on Boyd's second tally.
• Following a goal from the Penguins, the Zips assumed an 11-10 advantage on the strength of tallies from freshman Jaelyn Clinkscales (Rochester, N.Y.) and Boyd at the 3:25 and 2:28 marks.
• Youngstown State broke open an 11-11 tilt with four unanswered goals to begin the third quarter, before Boyd capped the scoring in the stanza for Akron with her third goal of the afternoon at the 2:28 mark.
• Kunttu and freshman Kylie Harris (Lake Norman, N.C.) concluded the Zips' scoring efforts on the day with goals at the 9:01 and 0:36 marks on the fourth quarter. Freshman Olivia Edkins (Bethel Park, Pa.) collected her first collegiate point with an assist on Kunttu's fourth-quarter goal.
• Kunttu, Boyd and Dennison led Akron with seven, five and five shots, respectively.
• Freshman GK Hannah Sanders (Massillon, Ohio) made eight saves for the Zips.
