AKRON, Ohio - A first-half scoring surge proved too much for the Akron lacrosse team to overcome as the Zips dropped a 19-10 decision to Central Michigan, the 2022 Mid-American Conference champions, on Saturday, April 30 at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Chippewas netted the first two goals of the match before the Zips squared the contest at two following unassisted tallies from freshman Izzy Szejk (Camp Hill, Pa.) and junior Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) at the 7:06 and 6:37 marks, respectively.
• Central Michigan closed the opening half with five unanswered goals to assume a 7-2 advantage at halftime.
• The Chippewas scored the opening two tallies of the second half before Kiefer delivered her second goal of the afternoon for Akron at the 10:40 mark.
• Sophomore Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.) posted her 13th goal of the year for the Zips at the 9:06 mark of the third quarter.
• Trailing 11-4, Akron responded with four unanswered tallies, including back-to-back-to-back goals from sophomore Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) and the third tally of the match from Kiefer. Two of the three tallies from Boyd came on successful free position attempts, while Silverheels earned the assist on the second goal.
• Kiefer and Boyd capped the scoring for Akron netting their fourth goals of the match at the 5:45 and 0:56 marks, respectively.
• Boyd led the Zips with a match-high nine shots, including seven on goal, while Kiefer contributed seven shots, with five falling on frame.
