AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams travel to Louisville, Ky., this weekend to compete at the Clark Wood Invitational hosted by Louisville on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30.

UP NEXT: In their next-to-last pre-conference tune-up for the upcoming Mid-American Conference Championships, the University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Louisville, Ky., to participate at the Clark Wood Invitational hosted by Louisville on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30.

The two-day event will kick off on Friday, April 29, with the women's hammer at 11 a.m. followed by action on the track beginning with the women's 800 meters at 4:30 p.m. and wrapping up with the men's 5,000 meters at 6:45 p.m. The final day of competition kicks off on Saturday, April 30, with the men's javelin at 11 a.m. before running events start at 12:30 p.m. with the preliminary round of the women's 100-meter hurdles. The meet will conclude with the men's 4x400 relay at 4:25 p.m.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams have garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2022 outdoor season as the Zips are rated in the Event Squad rankings released on April 25, 2022, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.

Akron is ranked ninth nationally in the men's men's hammer as well as rating among the top 30 in four different events.

The Zips also rate 15th in the men's long jump, 23rd in the women's 400-meter hurdles and 24th in the women's long jump.

The Akron men and women are ranked ninth and 10th, respectively, in the latest Great Lakes Regional polls.

ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2022 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has four student-athletes currently ranked in the top-30 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the 2022 outdoor campaign, led by junior Jacqueline Pokuaah (Akron, Ohio), who is 10th in the nation in the women's triple jump (44-4.75/13.53m).

Additionally, freshman Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) is 12th in the men's pole vault (17-11.25/5.47m), freshman Fegor Clifford (Delta State, Nigeria) is 14th in the women's 400-meter hurdles (57.41) and freshman Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) is 26th in the men's 400-meter hurdles (51.14).

CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips registered a quartet of top-five program performances at the Indiana Invitational led by senior Alyssa Thomas (Uniontown, Ohio) posting the second-fastest time in outdoor program history in the women's 10,000 meters crossing the line in 35:48.21.

Senior Jacob Ondash (Hiram, Ohio) earned the No. 3 time in outdoor program history in the men's 1,500 meters clocking a career-best time of 3:44.94.

Tallying the No. 4 performances in the women's 400 meters and men's pole vault, respectively, were Fegor Clifford and Hunter Garretson. Clifford crossed the line in a career-best effort of 54.70, while Garretson eclipsed a career-high clearance of 17-11.25 (5.47m).

AKRON TRIO EARNS MAC TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS:
University of Akron track and field standouts Jacqueline Pokuaah, Hunter Garretson and Jimmy Harkelroad were recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its Women's Field and Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday, April 27.

Overall, the Zips picked up weekly conference accolades for 11th, 12th and 13th times, respectively, in 2022.

Garretson won the men's pole vault for the Zips at the Indiana Invitational on Saturday, April 23, eclipsing a career-best mark of 17-11.25 (5.47m). His performance marked the No. 4 mark in outdoor program history and the 12th-best effort in the NCAA this season.

Harkelroad registered the second-fastest time, 51.17, in the MAC this season in the men's 400-meter hurdles en route to winning the event at the Indiana Invitational on April 22. His performance was just off his school-record time of 51.14 set a week earlier at the Beach Invitational. Additionally, he posted the seventh-fastest time in the MAC this season in the 400 meters crossing the line in a career-best time of 48.76.

Pokuaah bested the field in the women's triple jump at the Indiana Invitational on April 23, with a mark of 43-5.75 (13.25m). She owns a school-record and league-leading mark of 44-4.75 (13.53m) set at the Texas Relays earlier this spring. The effort stands as the No. 10 mark in the NCAA this season.

AKRON TRIO EARNS MAC TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS:
University of Akron track and field standouts Jacqueline Pokuaah, Hunter Garretson and Jimmy Harkelroad were recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its Women's Field and Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday, April 27.

Overall, the Zips picked up weekly conference accolades for 11th, 12th and 13th times, respectively, in 2022.

Garretson won the men's pole vault for the Zips at the Indiana Invitational on Saturday, April 23, eclipsing a career-best mark of 17-11.25 (5.47m). His performance marked the No. 4 mark in outdoor program history and the 12th-best effort in the NCAA this season.

Harkelroad registered the second-fastest time, 51.17, in the MAC this season in the men's 400-meter hurdles en route to winning the event at the Indiana Invitational on April 22. His performance was just off his school-record time of 51.14 set a week earlier at the Beach Invitational. Additionally, he posted the seventh-fastest time in the MAC this season in the 400 meters crossing the line in a career-best time of 48.76.

Pokuaah bested the field in the women's triple jump at the Indiana Invitational on April 23, with a mark of 43-5.75 (13.25m). She owns a school-record and league-leading mark of 44-4.75 (13.53m) set at the Texas Relays earlier this spring. The effort stands as the No. 10 mark in the NCAA this season.
